This policy explains, in plain words, what Doorways does with your information. We've tried to keep it honest and short, because the whole app is built on the idea that your private life should stay private.
Doorways ("the app", "we", "us") is made by Doorways.app. If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@mydoorways.app.
What we collect
Almost nothing — and nothing that leaves your device by default.
What stays on your phone (we never see it)
- Your entries — the notes, lines, and photos you choose to keep.
- Your profile — the interests, names, books, and places you tell the app about, so it can suggest things that fit you.
- Your settings — like your notification preferences.
- Usage counts — a simple on-device tally (for example, how often you take a suggestion) that helps the app work and that you can choose to share with us as a file. We never receive it unless you send it.
All of the above is stored only in the app, on your device. It is not uploaded, backed up to us, or readable by us.
What the app stores and our payment provider handle
To download Doorways and to buy a subscription, you use Apple's App Store or Google Play. When you subscribe, the store processes your payment — we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions; it receives an anonymous identifier and your purchase receipt so we can tell whether your subscription is active. It does not receive your name or your entries.
Diagnostics (if the app crashes)
If Doorways crashes, we may receive a basic, anonymous crash report — things like the device model and where in the code the crash happened — so we can fix it. Crash reports never include your entries, notes, or photos.
If you don't use a crash-reporting service, delete this section. If you do, name it here (e.g. Sentry, Firebase Crashlytics) and confirm it's configured to exclude personal content.
Permissions we ask for
- Camera — only if you choose to take a photo for an entry. We don't use it otherwise.
- Photo library — only to let you pick a photo to add to an entry.
- Notifications — only to send the gentle reminders and weekly look-back you turn on. You can switch these off any time, in the app or your phone's settings.
You can say no to any of these and still use the app.
What we do not do
- We don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We don't show ads, and we don't let advertisers profile you.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't build a copy of your record on our servers.
Your record is yours
Because your data lives on your device, you're in control of it:
- Export — save a full copy of everything (entries, photos, and a readable version) as a file, from Settings, whenever you like.
- Delete — remove any single entry, or erase everything in one action, from Settings. When you delete, it's gone from your device — and since we never had a copy, it's gone for good.
- Uninstall — removing the app removes its data with it.
Children
Doorways isn't directed at children under [13 / 16, per your target regions], and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, there's nothing for us to hold — but if you believe a child has shared personal details with us, contact us and we'll help.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information a company holds about you. In our case the answer is simple: we don't hold your personal information — it's on your device, under your control, and you can export or delete it yourself at any time. If you have questions about data handled by the app stores or RevenueCat, their own privacy policies apply, and you can also reach us at hello@mydoorways.app.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
